Madhu Jain (Estd.1987)
Born to one of Delhi’s leading old business families, Madhu had a traditional upbringing with schooling at Welham Girls and Waverly Convent. But she broke the mould with a Masters Degree from the Delhi School of Economics and continued her trailblazing course by later embarking into the then uncharted territories of fashion and design. Plunging into an unfamiliar world, she has never looked back.
Minus any formal training, her traditional roots and fine sense of aesthetics formed the basic principles of her design. Her unique approach to fashion as a way to celebrate your inner self has helped her carve a niche amongst India’s top fashion fraternity. A proud Dilliwala, Madhu Jain has used her detailed knowledge of the city and its hidden treasures to innovately combine craft and design. In 1996, she worked with one of the largest NGOs in the world, BRAC in Bangladesh on the revival of Nakshikantha and was responsible for the reintroduction of the legendary “Dhaka Muslin", a gorgeous handmade fabric renowned as Empress Noor Jehan's favorite textile which had disappeared from India after partition. In 1997, Madhu received international acclaim for her Nakshikantha creations showcased at the Miss World pageant. In 2003 her collection took the Singapore Fashion week by storm.
Madhu's work has been continuously featured at Ogaan, Kimaya and Ensemble and loyal patrons include Maneka Gandhi, Neelam Pratap Rudy, Princess Maha Al Sauduri of Saudi Arabia, Nita Ambani, Rani Mukerji and Juhi Chawla, Vandana Luthra.,Madhu has also designed a special line of clothes for Waheeda Rehman.
Its current collection is dramatically influenced by the art of Kalamkari as well as the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma.
